Hanlon Concern
I am very concerned about the plan to turn the Hanlon Expressway into a controlled-access freeway because of the context in which it’s proposed. Highway 8 is a serious bottleneck for traffic between Kitchener-Waterloo and the 401, and that municipality desperately needs a second highway.
Traffic at Woodlawn and Woolwich
For many years the residents at 19, 21 and 23 Woodlawn Road have had difficulties accessing Woodlawn Road safely. Poor initial lane design, numerous entrances into the Canadian Tire plaza and a huge increase in traffic from the new Wal-Mart, have made the situation even worse. Staff are working to help resolve this and a […]
New Tim Hortons at Woodlawn and Victoria
A new Tim Hortons donut shop is proposed for the corner of Woodlawn Road and Victoria Street. A committee of adjustment hearing is needed for a variance to the parking requirements. A constituent writes: We would like to register our objection to the variance from bylaw requirements that has been requested for the construction of […]
Carter Drive Extension: Not now
A constituent wrote in to ask whether Carter Drive in Ward 2 (see map) will be extended: Hi! I am about to really give you a test as our new councillor (and I am really glad that you won, congratulations!). We live on Carter Drive, which is a dead end street. I have heard from another […]
Woodlawn Extension to Highway 24?
Letter to Ward 2 Councillors with staff response. FYI Can you tell me if there is any chance that the city will consider the extension of Woodlawn Rd to Hwy.24 now that all the new houses are being built on the east end of Woodlawn? I understand it has been on the planning board for a […]
Idling By-law
Councillors have received a number of requests to revisit the idling by-law in Guelph. One of the obstacles to this is the City operated buses idling in the downtown. There have been some complications to this as the buses need to run in order to operate doors and ventilation. Staff is working on this problem and a more […]
Edward Johnson School Crossing: Part II
The school crossing on Stevenson St. in front of Edward Johnson School has been a issue for parents, City and school officials. The high number of children crossing the street combined with increased traffic and a number of accidents in the area have made crossing the street a concern for all.
Province announces new big highway to Kitchener.
This week, the Province of Ontario announced plans to build a new 4 lane highway between Guelph and Kitchener. “Better roads will improve safety, create jobs, encourage economic growth and keep this community strong.” says Transportation Minster Donna Cansfield. What of all the talk about improved public transit? I thought we were trying to reduce […]
Cardigan Street Stop Sign: Part IV
Staff have responded to the concern about changes to traffic control (stop sign removal) and parking on Cardigan Street. “Please be advised that we have reviewed the matter of relocating the stop sign from Cardigan St to Norwich St and a decision has been made not to proceed further. The notification signage and temporary stop […]
