Community sculpture at City Hall

Staff memo.

Some staff members have asked about the sculpture that has been taking shape here at City Hall over the past few weeks – you may have seen the ceramic tiles in the space under the main stairs on the ground floor.

Entitled Tower of Dreams, this is a community sculpture project that was completed as part of this summer’s Market Mornings program in Market Square. Over the course of four Saturday mornings in August 2014, about 200 people took part in the creation of the pyramid-like structure made of clay tiles, under the guidance of Guelph artist Ben McCarl.

Market Mornings is a new public space animation program of the City of Guelph’s Culture and Tourism Department. It is a summer series of artist-led opportunities for the community to participate in free hands-on activities for all ages. The program is designed to enhance community wellbeing through access to participation in a cultural program led by emerging and established local artists. Market Mornings is sponsored by RBC Royal Bank.

Tower of Dreams will be exhibited throughout the community in various public facilities in the coming months.
