raffic on Wellington Street will be reduced to one lane in the westerly direction from Gordon Street to Edinburgh Road starting Monday, June 16.
The reconstruction of Wellington Street , from Gordon Street to approximately 200 m west of McCrae Boulevard, is tentatively scheduled to begin on Monday, June 16, 2014 with anticipated completion by November 2014, weather permitting.
During construction, eastbound traffic on Wellington Street will not be permitted. The detour route will direct traffic from Edinburgh Road to Stone Road.
McCrae Boulevard (Gow’s Bridge) between Wellington Street and the Royal City Park access road (Royal Recreation Trail) has been closed since June 3, and will remain closed until November. McCrae Boulevard will remain open south of the park access road to allow motorists to access the park.
Drivers are advised to follow signed detours or, if possible, avoid the area.
“Every effort will be made to maintain access to homes and businesses during the reconstruction. At times access to driveways may be restricted and residents and businesses will be provided with alternative parking arrangements,” explained Ike Umar, project manager, Engineering Services. “In addition, the City will work with local businesses to mitigate construction impacts as much as possible, and post signage to advise the travelling public about alternate access to businesses.”

About the construction projects
Wellington Street reconstruction
The City is working to support the development at
40 Wellington Street
through the widening of Wellington Street to create on street parking, and upgrade utility and underground site servicing. The proposed work includes replacement and upgrading of the storm sewer, watermain, sanitary sewer, decorative street lighting, curb and gutter, sidewalk, driveway aprons, median and asphalt paving.
York Trunk Sewer and Paisley-Clythe Feedermain construction
The City has begun the design and construction of the
York Trunk Sewer and Paisley-Clythe Feedermain
. The project includes the installation of both services from Slivercreek Park, east of the Hanlon Expressway, through the parkland to a municipal parking area on the east side of Gordon Street. The project also includes the crossing of the Speed River, ending just north of the lattice covered bridge in York Road Park.
For through traffic in this area, drivers are advised to follow signed detours. For traffic intended to destinations in the area, drivers may experience delays however access to businesses and residents will be maintained.
It is expected that access to businesses will be interrupted during periods of construction when underground infrastructure is required to be installed across driveways. Advance notice will be given to the businesses about the interruptions to driveway access. In addition to providing businesses with advance notice, signage will also be posted to advise the travelling public about alternate access should alternate access be required.
