Exciting events on Open Government

Memo from excited staff member.

I wanted to highlight a few exciting events on Open Government.

We are leading the way in being more accessible, quicker in our response times, more open to sharing information and engaging residents in the work of their local government.
We aren’t just developing an Open Government Action Plan for future implementation, we are looking for every opportunity to act, test and learn as we go along. That’s why today the City released its first six datasets on guelph.ca/opendata for public use. We want to hear from the public about what kind of data they would find valuable, as we continue to expand the site and make it easy to use.
Why is this important? It’s important because an innovative municipal government works with its employees, community members and stakeholders to find meaningful local solutions. We need new solutions. They help us to provide exceptional service to our residents and stakeholders in real time.

We are also excited that the City and the University of Guelph will host an Open Guelph Hackathon event http://guelph.ca/2014/02/citys-data-catalogue-now-open/. This 24 hour Hackathon will run from Saturday, February 22 at 10am to Sunday Feb 23 at 10am. You can come and join students, local application developers and interested community members who will be working with the Open data sets released by the City to develop new solutions, tools and great ideas. Your participation is greatly valued in shaping positive change at the City in our pursuit of open government.

Come and unleash your creativity at the Hackathon event! Exciting!  Staff
