Have your say about Guelph's proposed new Animal Control By-laws

Bylaw staff, with the assistance of the Animal Control Bylaw Working Group (ACWG), is reviewing the City’s animal control bylaws to make sure they meet the community’s needs for regulating poultry, and domestic and exotic animals in Guelph.

After a number of meetings over the past two years, the ACWG—comprised of community members, agency representatives, and City employees—is proposing a number of bylaw recommendations, including expanding animal licensing to include other animals (e.g. cats, reptiles, poultry), prohibiting all animals from running at large, and introducing limits on the number of dogs and cats for each household.
Four meetings will be held between November 19 and 26 at City Hall to give members of the public a chance to learn more about the review, ask questions, and to tell staff what they think about the proposed bylaw recommendations.
Public meetings
•       Thursday, November 19, 9:30 a.m. to noon
•       Tuesday, November 24, 9:30 a.m. to noon and 6 to 8:30 p.m.
•       Thursday, November 26, 6 to 8:30 p.m.

Space is limited at each session and advanced registration is required. However, if there is enough demand, staff will schedule additional public meetings. For individuals who are unable to attend one of the four sessions, an online survey will be available between November 27 and December 31 atguelph.ca/haveyoursay<http://www.guelph.ca/haveyoursay>.

Following the public meetings and the online survey closing, staff, in consultation with the stakeholder working group, will review the public input to help develop a report and possible amendments for Council’s consideration in 2016.
