Hospice Wellington support

Take a moment to think about “Family Day” and the broader vision for our community this day brings forth. The purposes of Hospice Wellington and the vision of the organization for a residential Hospice means taking care of our families and everyones family — our larger family, our community, of which we are all a member. As a former Board member of Hospice Wellington I obviously have a personal interest in the hospice vision. During my time on the Board I was impressed by the careful financial management and vision of the organization combined with a passion for palliative care. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about my support for this meaningful organization and it’s funding of $1,000,000 as requested.  CV~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~After completing the Hospice Volunteer Training Course I have come to understand the incredibly valuable work Hospice does for our community.
As a resident in your Ward, I am writing to express my sincere hope that you will support Hospice Wellington ‘s request for funding on Tuesday night. I know that they need the full $1,000,000 ($200,000 each year for 5 years) which will be added to the $2,200,000 Guelph residents have already donated. This community needs hospice beds, and city support will ensure that Hospice builds their vital facility in 2008. I hope to celebrate with everyone at Hospice when we hear about your decision on Tuesday.
Thankyou for your concideration      BC

I’m requesting your vote for a full $1,000,000 over a 5 yr period for our planned new Hospice which will house 10
palliative beds as well as all our programs. I have been a volunteer with Hospice for 10 yrs and know 1st hand the need of families for a warm and loving environment for end of life care for a loved one. I have sat with clients in Freeport ,St Joseph’s and G.G.H It’s long overdue in this growing city. Philosophy and care in a Hospice is much different from a General Hospital and many older people need much support during this time in their life. We do not have enough Palliative beds in this city.       BM

I am writing on behalf of my partner and myself in support of City funding for Hospice Wellington. We believe that Hospice currently provides a vital service to Guelph residents and that the planned Residence is very much needed.

I first made use of Hospice’s services when my mother passed away in December 2002. At last-minute notice, a couple of amazing Hospice angels sat with my mother through the night a couple of days before she passed. Kevin and I were my mother’s only remaining family and we had both run out of strength and desperately needed some rest. That one night made a huge difference. I only wish that a Hospice residence had been available at that time to make her final days more physically and emotionally comfortable and to provide me with the knowledge that she was in the best possible, most experienced hands at such a difficult time.

It was also a comfort to know that grief programs were available to me after my mother’s death – not only grief support, but art classes, massage, etc.

To give back for the help that Hospice had given, both my partner and I did some volunteer work for this wonderful organization. Chiefly, I volunteered in the Hospice Wellington office (mostly on helping revise “Policies and Procedures”), joined the Residential Committee, made presentations, and both my partner and I helped with the Angel Tree.

Finally, when Hospice Wellington was going through its transition of staff and location in late 2005/early 2006, I was on staff for six months as Interim Office Coordinator.

Throughout our association with Hospice Wellington, I met a lot of amazing angels and have come to truly understand how important Hospice is both to our community and in general. I know that all of us would want to have the best of care for our loved ones, and for ourselves, in the last days of life and we can’t think of any organization that would do a better job of providing that care than Hospice. And to help Hospice do that, in their current capacity and as a residence, we ask that you support their funding.      RR
