May 10th, 2014 Downtown Gives Back

DGBA press release.

Go shopping or dining in downtown Guelph on Saturday May 10th and 10% of your purchase will be donated to a worthy cause. Some of our finest downtown retailers and eateries will be taking part in this fundraiser, and customers can choose to give their contribution from a list of 8 local charitable organizations. (see below).

Raising over $10,000 for local charities in the past two years, this year’s event features live entertainment from folk singer/songwriter Rob Witherspoon, free face painting from the talented Cleo and her painting pals, ‘Snappy’ SCRABBLE games hosted by Action Read and limited free hot dogs from Moe’s Gourmet. The 8 charitable organizations will also be displaying tables with fun games and are ready to share what they do with the community. Find all of this and more in the activity court in St. George’s Square from 11am-3pm.

Whilst in the shopping mood, pay a visit to the Spring Pop Up Market where you’ll find over 15 artists selling handmade works, just in time to get that special gift for Mother’s Day. Taking place in the empty store front next to Wellington Cakes, many vendors will be donating 10% of their sales to a Downtown Gives Back charity.

The Elliott Community is one of the 8 charities that will benefit from the event. ”Downtown Gives back in an exceptional initiative that not only assists us in raising much needed resources for our residents, but also allows for The Elliott to engage the broader community, increasing awareness of the needs of seniors”, says Michelle Hughes of The Elliott Community.

“Sanguen Health Centre is thrilled to take part in Downtown Gives Back for a second time! We think it’s an incredible community-based initiative, coordinated by the DGBA, to facilitate downtown businesses in supporting 8 local charities.” Sanguen Health Centre, Estera Brudek
