November 20 winter storm

The approaching Alberta Clipper is expected to bring us between 5 and 10 cm of snow accumulation between 5 pm today and tomorrow afternoon.
The snow is expected to fall slow and steady throughout the period.
In preparation to deal with this storm we have the following plans in place;

Leaf collection will be suspended for tomorrow. Staff have been instructed NOT to plow, (if plowing is required) to the curbs AND/OR to avoid leaf piles. We do not anticipate sufficient accumulation from this event to warrant a residential plowout…(as per current forecasts at this time).
Staff will attend to the roads tonight or as soon as required once accumulation on the pavement has begun. We have 6 units which have undergone changeover and are available to us for this purpose.
We are anti-icing known trouble areas and bridge decks this afternoon in preparation. We did not have opportunity to anti-ice all salt routes as per normal due to our activities on hand.
Facilities staff are scheduled to begin early , (at 5 am) only because we only have only one ton and a half unit ready for winter and the early start time will provide us the lead time necessary to get to most of the facilities before they open tomorrow.
Sidewalk winter control staff will be starting at 7 am and we anticipate it to take 8 hours to complete the high priority and medium priority walks. Trackless units (from the leaf program) are being prepared with plow attachments right now.
Downtown sidewalk clearing will begin at 5 am with two units….(as per regularly scheduled staff).
Hand crews for city owned steps are ready to go for 7 am as well.

this is a small event and what we are doing to combat this event in my opinion….. “is all in a days work”.     Staff
