The Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation (MRI) and Wal-Mart Canada announced today that they are pursuing a project with Menova Energy that would provide up to $5.9 million to support the demonstration of the company’s world-leading Power-Spar solar concentrator technology. The intention is to test and install the technology on the roof of a Wal-Mart store in Ontario, yet to be selected or constructed.

On a related note, I have provided a snippit below from Richard Mash of Sunpark Energy, Rockwood, Ontaro. Sunpark is a local solar provider and have set up a test site partnership with Terraview near Guelph Lake sports fields.

Sunpark offered a complete solar installation to the Guelph Wal-mart SmartCentre site at no cost. SmartCentres/Wal-mart turned them down.

We need an answer to the question “why”. If it’s good enough for somewhere else, why is it not good enough for Guelph? I know, I know, they are not required to do it under our Official Plan or CEP. But it’s still the right thing to do… LP
