City Council approved the 2009 operating and capital budgets on Monday evening.
In addition to all the existing services that you currently receive, these new services were approved:
bicycle racks on buses
arts and culture manager
increased funding for Neighbourhood Support Coalition
more traffic cops
continued 2hr free street parking downtown
seasonal overnight street parking
east end library branch in September
adult crossing guards
snow windrow clearing volunteer program
continued sidewalk ploughing
freedom of information clerk
heritage planner
waste reduction coordinator for ICI and multi-residential
GIS technologist
internet payment for court fines
support for ARC Industries
What didn’t get approved:
Councillor’s fax service
Councillor’s assistant
additional yard waste pickup
Christmas day bus service
Still to be considered early in 2009:
1.4 M in lost provincial funding
400K additional ask from the County for Social Services
