River Run presents Building/Dance, a special free-admission event featuring celebrated Canadian dancer and choreographer Laurence Lemieux and internationally renowned architect Donald Schmitt on Sunday, March 9th, 2014, from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. in the Cooperators Hall.
Laurence Lemieux of Coleman Lemieux & Compagnie and Donald Schmitt of Diamond Schmitt Architects will share their engaging and personal story of how a design project led to the creation of a flourishing community cultural hub, and inspired a unique choreographic collaboration.

Dichterliebe: The Poet’s Love – a work inspired by Schumann’s songcycle
that will be performed at River Run Centre by Laurence Lemieux on Saturday, March 29th at 8 pm. Dichterliebe includes a short piece choreographed by Donald Schmitt.

Laurence is co-artistic director of Coleman Lemieux & Compagnie, an innovative Toronto-based Canadian dance company, known for its unbridled and uncompromising artistic vision. As a dancer she has worked with the world’s most prominent choreographers. Laurence is also a celebrated choreographer, known for her talent in forging new and unique artistic collaborations. She is deeply engaged in building community through the arts – particularly through the medium of dance.
Donald Schmitt of Diamond Schmitt Architects has vast experience in designing academic, healthcare, research and cultural facilities. His recent cultural projects include Regent Park’s Arts and Culture Centre in Toronto and the new St. Catharines Performing Arts Centre. He is the Founding Chair of the Public Art Commission for the City of Toronto and is currently a member of the Waterfront Toronto Design Review Panel.
