Emergency Services – Routine Planning and Preparation EBOLA awareness.

Staff memo.

As the Ebola outbreak is being addressed across the world the City’s Emergency
Services management staff are closely monitoring any issues relative to our
local response plans around the spread of the virus. Hopefully these Plans will
not require implementation.

We are in regular contact with emergency planning staff from partner agencies
to review universal precautions and decontamination procedures. Any changes in
our approach will be guided by communication from the Medical Officer of Health
and communicated to local first responders, including police, firefighters, and
paramedics.

In addition, when appropriate, the Health Unit will communicate information
received from the Province and other sources to our response staff and members
of the public.

Furthermore, the City’s Emergency Response Plan provides a framework to guide
our response to identified risks for the community, including human health
emergencies such as the Ebola outbreak. We will share information widely if the
situation changes.
