Trees or parking lot?

Trees or parking lot?

“the city plans to take down 9 mature trees at the Guelph Youth Music Centre to make way for a bigger parking lot”

When I was a little girl (age 6), I remember going up to the principal at my school (in Scarborough) and asking him to not cut down a tree to create an unnecessary parking lot….The parking lot is still an unnecessary eyesore till this day. The reason why this second parking lot was created was to avoid parents having to walk too far on “Meet the teacher” nights (which only happens once or twice per year). The parking lot covered up green space, made the school grounds less appealing, wasn’t used very much, cost unnecessary money and we lost a beautiful peaceful tree that helped to keep us cool on summer days and helped to keep the air clean.

I checked out the Youth Music Centre and found that the road is really wide and leaves ample space for parking on the road (if the existing big parking lot happens to get full). There was a wedding going on that day and the existing parking lot wasn’t full….and even if it had been…it’s o.k. to park on the street and walk a little….exercise is a good thing.

Please consider keeping the beautiful trees and using the money to plant more trees and more gardens. I’m from Scarborough…the concrete jungle…I would like Guelph to be filled with trees.MP
