410 Clair

I’m sure I can’t say anything more to the concerns the WW community has in regards to 410 Clair that hasn’t been said already. But we feel necessary to send in our comments and be at the next counsel meeting.
My husband and I built our new house and moved in on Baxter Drive Mid December 2008.
We have many concerns regarding the proposed Church on 410 Clair. We strongly feel the land should remain as residential, not for a religious establishment or anything outside of residential, and can’t believe the City of Guelph thinks this land is a suitable place for the proposed establishment.
Many people on my side of the street on Baxter Dr paid in excess of 50,000 + premium for green space viewing at the back of the house. We will have this establishment in our view every time I step out my front door.
We also pay an annual payment for our “residential” neighbourhood to maintain a unique look and feel.
We (and about 20 Baxter Drive neighbours and a petition in hand) were at City hall in March / April 2009 timeframe already as neighbours a few doors down needed to apply for more “parking spaces” for their Salon business they were building in their house. Which already has a basement apartment. There is cars all the time and traffic not wanted as we predicted. Seems to be in Guelph we have wonderful bylaws etc that really don’t mean anything as pretty much the City of Guelph approves everything. I guess next I could live next door to a welding shop as I’m sure you would approve that. I’m getting very frustrated with the development plans happening for Guelph – I’ve lived all my life in Guelph – majority in the South end. I built a house in the Clairfields 10 years and we were to have a “South end recreation centre” – it’s very frustrating how the city just rezones just like that. I had basically no amenities for years. I don’t even pass a gas station on my way to work and still to this day I don’t – imagine going out of your way every time you need gas in your car for more than 10 years!
410 Clair land needs to remain as residential and any other establishment be it religious or restaurant or anything like that should not be built on that land.
Some of the counsel members that read comments on live TV in Dec that were inappropriate should have their integrity questioned as who would actually read those types of comments. We know there are ignorant people out there of all races but to actually read someone’s ignorant comments on live TV is horrifying. There just shouldn’t be anything outside of “residential” built in the area.
I am not sure where Guelph is heading for the future but feels to me they are going to make Guelph like all the other surrounding cities and Guelph will eventually lose it’s Charm!  RP
