Guelph will receive $44.4 million in federal and provincial funds to upgrade local roads, transit infrastructure, and municipal buildings like the city’s main fire hall station.
The funding, from what’s known as the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund, was announced this morning at City Hall. The governments of Canada and Ontario will each invest up to $22,176,163 in the projects, which will be matched by the City.
Speaking on behalf of Mayor Karen Farbridge, Councillor Vicki Beard thanked both levels of government. She also extended special thanks to City staff who worked labouriously on the funding applications that yielded $44.4 million for Guelph.
The City of Guelph’s Chief Administrative Officer, Hans Loewig, echoed Councillor Beard’s appreciation. “This funding – vital to helping us meet Guelph’s growing infrastructure needs – will allow us to begin work immediately on several projects and at less cost to local taxpayers.”
The City of Guelph applied for a total of $129.9 million from the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund in May.
