Project Frosh 2009-2010 comparison

I dug out the stats for Project frosh last year and found that 64 by-law charges and 147 Liquor Licence Act charges were laid. We did not divide the stats up the way we did this year unfortunately but I can provide some insight as to the types of charges laid; for example, by-law charges would include public urination and noise by-law infractions. Liquor Licence Act charges would include public intoxication, consume liquor outside residence or licenced premise, have liquor accessible to driver in a motor vehicle etc… We did not track jaywalking tickets in the past. The stats below are for this year’s initiative. I hope this helps. Please let me know if you require more information.

On August 13th, 2010 The Guelph Police Service and City By-Law Enforcement Section launched the education phase of this year’s “Action Plan for Alcohol Related Crime and Disorder Problems in Downtown Guelph” initiative. This educational phase was covered by several local print, social, radio and TV media partners.
Final Stats – 5 week totals- September 9th to October 14th, 2010

Liquor Licence Act charges laid:*including False ID Charges
5 Week Total = 191

Jay Walking/Highway Traffic Act charges laid: 5 Week Total = 262

Public Urination charges laid: 5 Week Total = 76

Impaired Driving/Over 80 charges laid: 5 Week Total = 8

Criminal Charges laid; 5 Week Total = 50

Alcohol related driving suspensions issued: 5 Week Total = 18

Roadside Screening Device demands/tests: 5 Week Total = 37

Noise By-law charges: 5 Week Total =148

One further interesting stat is that property damage incidents in the downtown core have reduced from 147 incidents (Jan-Sep 2009) to 63 this year (same time frame.)

“We believe that this initiative was a success in that the number and seriousness of violent incidents, property damage and motor vehicle/pedestrian accident was down from previous years. Obviously the increased education, awareness, enforcement and police presence contributed to the overall safety and those who enjoy our downtown core at night.”  GPS
