This e-mail is to advise you that we will be placing temporary hoarding around the family fountain in St. George’s square to address a potential safety concern.
Staff recently discovered a crack in the supporting leg of the statue, and feel that the crack is significant enough to cause a safety concern. The risk is that if someone were to climb up on the fountain, it could break along the line of the crack and fall over. As a precaution, we have decided that it is better to block access to the fountain until it has been repaired.
We have arranged for an art conservator to assess the crack, and once we have the assessment completed, we’ll be able to provide a timeline for repairs to the statue. Staff
