City planning takes work

So Robert Walters resigned from city hall planning because (I quote directly from the report he leaked)
Guelph has “a highly educated, sophisticated and affluent population that understands how best to influence process,” and “Guelph could seek to emulate . . . the ‘leaders’ in . . . Hamilton, Cambridge, Kitchener, Waterloo, Milton, Burlington and Mississauga” (Tribune, Dec. 13).
He is correct. The people in Guelph are highly engaged in the community, research issues and believe that there is some point to being involved in our vision for the city. Our mayor,  Councillors and planners do listen to various points of view. This is why we don’t have the urban sprawl, towering high-rises and
kilometre after kilometre of unsightly strip malls as seen in Cambridge, Kitchener, Waterloo, etc.
I am sorry for planners who think that working for the city will be easy. City planning takes work.        LJ
