Mayor to host second annual New Year's levee on January 12

Mayor Karen Farbridge will host her second annual New Year’s levee on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at City Hall.

This free public event, from 1 to 4 p.m., will feature children’s entertainment and activities, crafts, hot chocolate and cookies, as well as skating on the outdoor rink in Market Square.

“It is always nice to see families, neighbours, friends and colleagues come together to celebrate the new year in style,” said Mayor Karen Farbridge. “I welcome everyone to attend this wonderful event. Occasions like this keep our community connected and strengthen relationships.”

About levees
Levees originated in France and the concept of welcoming members of the public to meet and chat with public officials was adopted by government representatives across Europe. It was Canada that began the tradition of hosting a levee on New Year’s Day and elected officials from all levels of government continue the tradition.
