Skating and celebrating the new year at Guelph City Hall

Mayor Karen Farbridge will host her first annual New Year’s levee on Saturday, January 7 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Guelph City Hall. All are welcome. The free, family-friendly event will feature children’s activities, live entertainment, refreshments, and skating on the new outdoor rink in front of City Hall.
“I hope everyone will be able to join us to celebrate the New Year with a new annual tradition,” said Mayor Farbridge. “I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than by taking a spin on our new rink.”
“The City expects to begin operating the skating rink on December 20,” added City Engineer, Richard Henry. “In February, our contractor will complete the pavilion building that will house public washrooms, a seating area and the zamboni. People are welcome to come and skate while the contractor finishes the building.”
The official grand opening for Guelph’s Market Square is scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 18. “In February, I look forward to officially cutting the ribbon and thanking the community members who donated more than $1 million to build the skating rink in the square,” said Mayor Farbridge. “In the meantime, I invite everyone to sharpen your skates and come out for some family fun on January 7.”
