Environment Week is June 3-9. City celebrates with a host of Environment Week activities for the public.
The City of Guelph is taking action during Environment Week. Guelph Transit will launch it’s new anti-idling protocol on Clean Air Day. Beginning June 6, all buses will be required to turn off their engines while waiting at a transfer point.
To celebrate Environment Week the City is hosting several environment-focused events to raise awareness and encourage protection of Guelph’s natural resources. Residents are encouraged to take part in the events and to gain knowledge and understanding of the environmental issues affecting the community.
A number of activities, including the Commuter Challenge, the Managing Healthy Lawns seminar, and an interactive presentation of Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth” slideshow presented by Guelph resident and Climate Project messenger, Walt Palmer, are scheduled to take place during Environment Week, June 3 to June 9. Free bus service will also be provided on Wednesday, June 6 to celebrate Clean Air Day and assist residents taking part in the Commuter Challenge and residents attending the free climate change presentation.
For over thirty years, communities across Canada have been celebrating Environment Week with activities and events to raise awareness of the many aspects of the environment and the benefits of environmental protection. The week long celebration encourages Canadians to take action for our environment by making environmentally-friendly choices on a regular basis.
