Art on the Street welcomes the Children’s Art Festival

GUELPH, ON, July 2nd, 2013
– Quebec Street in historic downtown Guelph will see over 100 artists showcase their work in the 11th annual Art on the Street
onSaturday, July 13, 2013 from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm.

Fresh for this year, the newly formed Children’s Arts Festival collective will inspire creativity in St George’s Square with a full day of musical performances and theatrical events, all set within a space that will be designed with your child’s inner artist in mind.

The festival aims to enable children to discover, enjoy and celebrate the arts – as audience, learners and as creators of their own art.

Melissa Mazar, a founding member of the Children’s Arts Festival, said “we want to have an arts event in which kids get completely immersed, whether it is in music, performance or paint !

Art on the Street

is a great opportunity for us to incubate our festival and generate some interest in making it a regular part of this great event”.

On the stage children’s author and illustrator Werner Zimmerman will share his passion for children’s literature.

We will also encounter interactive puppetry from Pandora’s Sox and music from The Funky Mamas, The Relative Minors and Gary Raspberry.

First Light Theatre will take to the stage between acts and play drama games for any and all who would like to participate, and present scenes from some of their 2013 shows.

The Play with Clay craft bus will be on site, as will the Guelph Public Library, Guelph School of Art, and Pablo’s World of Cartoons, each offering an interactive artistic activity for your family to enjoy.

Focus on Nature, a Guelph-based non-profit photography program created specifically for kids, will be displaying a sample of pictures taken by youngsters of all ages.

Sculptor Ben McCarl, creator of the Paper Bag Princess sculpture that sits in Guelph Public Library, will need your help to create his new piece of public art.

Visitors will be invited to apply handfuls of clay and form the beginnings of a fresh sculpture that will eventually be donated and displayed in a public space.

Art on the Street Exhibition & Sale is a juried showcase featuring contemporary fine art and craft that occurs annually in downtown Guelph.
