By law for noise

I have been reading much on this new by-law revision. It almost resembles an omnibus bill approach.

If the main purpose of this amendment is to assist the police to further curb the shenanigans of the young people downtown, then I suggest that it be the focus alone. To date the police have by-laws that have enabled them to deal with this kind of activity and quite successfully. It is their job and not all jobs are always nice. I experience the noise and commotion of the first weeks back to school every year. Yes, it is annoying, only for a while. I am sure you and I were annoying too when we were young. We paid the consequences and turned out all right. This suggested by-law will not stand up as a healthy underpinning of our local society.

As for inviting other departments to add their wish list, such a strategy can backfire and jeopardize the widespread reputation of community that Guelph enjoys. It is important to work holistically and not think in silos. If you must, then stick to the intent. I say no more. There has been a huge response emphasizing the dangers of interpretation, and who would that interpreter be? MM
