Recognizing the need to develop improved plans for parking, the City of Guelph has initiated a Parking Master Plan study focusing on Downtown Guelph and surrounding areas.
The City will review existing and future parking needs to develop a forward-looking and sustainable master parking plan for the next 10 to 20 years. The Plan will consider existing parking needs and policies, develop future forecasts of parking demand, and identify alternative methods of providing and managing parking.
“Parking impacts all residents of Guelph and is one of the biggest factors in achieving a successful urban area. Too little parking can affect visitation and business viability; while providing too much parking is expensive and can delay our plans to grow the City more efficiently and sustainably,” says Allister McILveen, manager of Traffic and Parking at the City of Guelph.
Residents, business owners/operators, landowners, and stakeholders concerned about parking issues are invited to attend a series of two Public Information Session. The first session will be held on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at City Hall, in Meeting Room C. A formal presentation will be held at 6:30 p.m. Before and after the presentation, attendees will be given the opportunity to discuss current parking issues and future objectives with City staff. A second Public Information Session will be held at the end of March 2013.
The parking study is expected to be completed by April 2013. A major initial task of the study will be to collect data on existing parking demand and supply. Once the challenges and opportunities are fully documented, a set of alternative solutions will be evaluated and presented to the public for comment.
