Community gardens are outdoor spaces where neighbours meet to grow fresh fruits and vegetables, flowers and native plant species.
Why support community gardens in Guelph? Because community gardens:
• Provide local organic food and promote a healthy diet through access to fresh fruits and vegetables• Feed communities inexpensively and sustainably
• Promote physical activity, improve health and provide stress relief
• Reduce carbon emissions, improve local air and water quality
• Build a sense of community ownership and pride
• Create beautiful neighbourhood spaces
• Provide outdoor classrooms for children to learn about growing foodI’m asking you to support the use of Guelph’s public spaces for community gardens and to make community gardens a priority in the 2010 City of Guelph Budget. JT
