The City of Guelph launches its program of free summer entertainment in Market Square with a live dance and music performance on Friday, June 28, 2013 beginning at 9:15 p.m. to coincide with this month’s Fourth Fridays events.
“After the huge success of last year’s dance event, we’re excited for the opportunity to present “water moves”, a newly commissioned work for dancers and musicians, created by Georgia Simms of IMAGEO artworks,” says Danna Evans, Interim General Manager of Culture and Tourism. The dance is set to music by Patrick Watson, Hannah Georgas and Sarah Slean. The performance features poetic prose by spoken word artist Kevin Sutton.
“It is an honour to use the power of dance and music to entertain and engage our community in celebration of mystery and beauty and to reflect on the significance of water in our lives. The performers, who all call Guelph home, are thrilled to have the opportunity to re-create the magical experience that so many enjoyed last year.”
Immediately following the performance everyone is invited to dance the night away to the beats of Mr. Danger and the world fusion sounds of DJ Eccodek. This presentation is supported by the Guelph Community Foundation through the Nicholas Lambden Memorial Children’s Foundation Fund and Ontario Dances, a program of Ontario Arts Council.

The summer line up also includes a series of family-friendly Friday night movies:
• July 5 – Monsters Inc.
• July 26 – Night at the Museum
• August 9 – How to Train Your Dragon
• August 23 –UP
• September 13 – Back to the Future

All movies begin at 9 p.m. Everyone is invited to bring their own lawn chairs.

On Saturday, August 3, the community is invited to take in the annual John Galt Day festivities, including musical entertainment, children’s games and crafts, refreshments by Farmers’ Market vendors and water play. The activities run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The summer program wraps up the last weekend of September in celebration of Culture Days. Stay tuned for details.
