Guelph Community Volunteer Patrol

This correspondence was originally sent to Mayor Farbridge:

You spoke of the Guelph Police, and how they are a great asset and they have been helping Guelph’s streets safe for many years , true !! However there is another group who Volunteer’s for the Guelph Police whom also help keep Guelph safe . This group is Community Volunteer Patrol ( CVP ). We have been in existence since 1996. We act as the eyes and ears for the Police. What we do is patrol the city in pairs with another volunteer in our own vehicles, which are marked with our logo as well as the Guelph police logo
(magnets) We are in touch with dispatch hourly. We patrol schools, parks, and any area’s that need extra security. The entire shift is logged and reported as to where we have been. As well as incident reports, park reports . If we come upon a scene in which police are needed . We aid in this. We are a group of 25. Our office is located out of the Guelph Police Station. However we are not funded by them in the
budget at all. It is up to us to raise our own funds. For things like gas, cell phones, GPS systems, and anything we require to help . Many Guelphites do not even realize we are out there , let alone what we do. I feel we are an important part of helping keep the city safe. We have had many incidences in which had we not been out, citizens could have been in danger. We would like to be recognized and better yet helped by the city for what we do. Being a born Guelphite this city is personal to me. I hope you will be able to help us in any way .
