We want to hear from you!
Guelph Transit will be installing a number of new bus shelters in 2013 and we’d like you to help us choose the locations.

How can I provide input?
From now until May 17, you can submit your shelter location suggestions to Guelph Transit by submitting your suggestions online. You can also submit your suggestions in-person at ServiceGuelph, West End Community Centre, Victoria Road Recreation Centre or Guelph Transit, or by mail to Guelph Transit, C/O City Hall, 1 Carden Street, Guelph ON N1H 3A1.
Guelph Transit staff will also be available at various city facilities in May taking your questions and suggestions about new shelter locations!
Thursday, May 2 – City Hall Galleria, 1 Carden Street, 3-6 p.m.
Friday, May 3 – Guelph Public Library Westminster Square Branch, 31 Farley Drive, Unit 100, 2-5 p.m.
Monday, May 6 – Evergreen Seniors Centre, 683 Woolwich Street, 3-6 p.m.
Please note that shelters will be placed at existing bus stops only.

What information is needed?
In order to suggest a bus shelter location, please provide the route number, the bus stop location and, if you know it, the NextBus ID (i.e. Gordon St. at Stone Rd. W., ID 0101), and the reason why you feel that a shelter is needed at your bus stop.
Don’t know your bus stop name? Can’t find your NextBus ID number? Visit our routes and schedules page and click the link for the full schedule for your route; the NextBus ID number is the four-digit number in the column next to the bus stop location.

What happens next?
Guelph Transit staff will review all of the suggested locations to determine if the bus stop is suitable for a shelter. A number of factors will help to decide where the shelters will be installed this year. Guelph Transit has an annual budget for the installation of new shelters, which means we may not be able to install shelters at all suggested locations. If your stop is not selected, but would accommodate a shelter, the location will be kept on a list for future consideration.

In June, Guelph Transit will post the list of the bus stop locations where shelters will be installed this summer. The list will be posted on guelphtransit.ca, in the City News section of the Guelph Tribune and on the buses.

What factors determine if a location will accommodate a shelter?
Service level: Guelph Transit will prioritize bus stop locations based on the number of routes servicing a stop in order to provide service to a wider variety of passengers.

Size & accessibility: Our current standard bus stop includes a 2.1 metre (m) by 9 m concrete pad. We will install new shelters on an adjoining concrete pad that that is connected to the bus stop pad – the shelter pad is 1.5 m by 2.5 m. In some instances, we are able to install a shelter on a smaller area, but we require a 1.5 m unobstructed pathway on at least two sides of the shelter.

Type of road (arterial, collector, residential) & surrounding area: Guelph Transit prefers not to install shelters directly in front of a residential home or on residential streets.

Sight-lines: City staff will review the site to determine if the shelter would create a sight-line obstacle for vehicles traveling on streets or driveways near the proposed bus stop location.

Existing amenities: If there is already a shelter or a bench at your proposed bus stop location, or if there is a shelter or bench located at a nearby stop, it would not be a priority to install a bus shelter at the same location.
