Guelph’s Urban Forest Management Plan

The City wants your help to evaluate our work to plan, manage and monitor Guelph’s urban forest through the Urban Forest Management Plan (UFMP).

The Urban Forest Management Plan (UFMP) is a 20-year strategy with the goal to ensure the health and sustainability of Guelph’s urban forest canopy as the city continues to grow.

City staff is evaluating the work they’ve done since 2013 to achieve the 22 recommendations set out in the UFMP. This helps prioritize and plan for the next phase of work between 2020 and 2023. They will repeat that process until the plan wraps up its work in 2032, but its impacts will be felt for decades after its completion.

A survey is now open at https://www.haveyoursay.guelph.ca/urban-forest-management-plan to help the City learn:

  • If we foster a tree-friendly culture
  • What actions we should prioritize to achieve our recommendations
  • Whether you’re supportive of our goals and vision

You can also use the story tool to tell us about a time that we helped make our community or neighbourhood tree-friendly through a program, incentive or support.

The engagement results to be presented to Council on April 6 2020.   This is also when City staff will report their progress to date, goals for the next five years and how it aligns to Sustaining our Future in the Corporate Strategic Plan.
