Hydro outage

Currently there is a hydro outage in the north end of Guelph. I am advised that most of the community north of Speedvale Avenue is without power. I have spoken with Guelph Hydro and have been advised that a hydro feeder from outside the City has been damaged (unknown where or how as of yet). The line feeds the 230 Kv supply at the Campbell Road transformer station. Guelph Hydro has been able to re-activate power to some of the affected area (around the WECC) by remote switching from the Cedar transformer station. It is expected at present that the power should be restored around 6:30 p.m. and Guelph Hydro will keep us informed.

There is a list kept of people who are dependent on electricity due to equipment used for an illness, etc. It has been checked and there is no need for us to intervene with anyone at this point.

The first response agencies are not experiencing major issues at this point.Staff

As an update this evening I can tell you that we did not receive the accumulation of snow or freezing rain that was forecasted. Due to our anti-icing efforts, any snow that did fall earlier today has melted on the arterial/collector roads. These roads have no ice and remain wet with fair to good traction. The forecast is for continued drizzle/showers throughout the evening with light snow flurries starting at 5:00 am tomorrow morning (less than 1 cm).

At this moment, the winter control team continues to watch for ice forming on known trouble spots (ie. bridge decks and hills) and are prepared to treat accordingly. Sidewalks will only be treated if there are icy conditions present. Given the above freezing air temperatures and the corresponding dew point, we are not anticipating any ice tonight or into tomorrow morning.

Finally, the electrical outage has not had any adverse effects on our ability to conduct winter control today or into the evening. Staff
