January weather 2012 staff update

I would like to take this opportunity to touch base with you on the status of our winter control activity to date this season. We are approaching the end of January and as such approaching the half way point of the winter.
As you all know, we are experiencing a very “different” winter season this year with substantial fluctuations in temperature, a significant amount of rain and very little relative snow accumulation, all due to our lady friend, La Nina. This is not to say, of course, that things cannot change at any given point in time.
Please be aware that Public Works is in full winter control mode. We remain vigilant and ready to combat temperature fluctuations and whatever form of precipitation comes our way. Be it flooding from excessive rainfall or snow and ice from storm systems or plummeting temperatures, we are ready.

We are expecting temperatures to drop below zero Celsius again tonight after near record daily highs today. As such, we will be out there to ensure roads and sidewalks remain ice free from the temperature drop. We will continue to keep you abreast of any significant issues and storm systems as they approach and or as we deal with them when they arrive throughout the remainder of the winter season. Staff
