Photo radar

A resident’s perspective.

I see our Mayor and Police Chief are supportive of ‘photo radar enforcement’ in Guelph. I certainly hope that an exhaustive study is done before these are implemented. Before our city spends money on these expensive programs, only to have them scrapped with a court challenge later would seem foolish to me. There is plenty of evidence available that the safety margin realized by photo enforcements is, at best, marginal. In fact there is supportive evidence available that these can actually be counter safety and cause accidents. As in Ontario, many American municipalities have gone away from photo enforcement.
There is also plenty of evidence to support that these photo enforcement cameras are first and foremost nothing but a cash grab. In fact if you’ll listen to Mayor Farbridge and police Chief Larkin support, BOTH of them will admit to the financial gains to be made from these cameras.  EW
