Re-zoning of 410 Clair Road File #ZC0912

When my wife and I were contemplating our move from Waterdown, we reviewed our options carefully. Several other communities offered excellent alternatives, but Guelph, and in particular Westminster Woods, won out because of the incredible foresight of the planning department. We were very pleased with the parks, trails, amenities and of course, future plans for the immediate area.

We feel re-zoning 410 Clair would be a grave mistake. The sheer size of the establishment would make it stand out, and not in a pleasant way. The additional strain of vehicular and even pedestrian traffic would be a detriment to what is proving to be a “pleasant little corner” of Guelph. Surely there are areas in the vicinity far better suited for a building of this magnitude. The original zoning should be maintained, or perhaps permit more residential, but not this or anything even remotely similar.

We were discussing the re-zoning again last night. If it goes through, chances are we’ll be relocating after just a short stay.

I realize what will be will be, and the applicants will likely push till the planning department caves in, but you must understand one thing. Most of us in the immediate area would not have purchased here if this information had been available. I can tell you for certain I would not have. To change the zoning after so many have just recently purchased and moved in is just wrong. You are doing a disservice to your constituents.

If you would like to know for certain how the neighbouring residents feel, forget the legal notices, forget offering the opportunity to take time off work etc. to face council. Go door to door and ask, that will give you a much better understanding.MD
