Road North closed for urgent repairs

Press release.

The City of Guelph has closed Victoria Road North from‎ Goldenview Drive to Conservation Drive as part of the road has given way.

The road collapse occurred on Saturday afternoon and was caused by an opening in the culvert beneath the surface of the road. Staff immediately excavated the area to prepare for permanent repairs.

Drivers are asked to stay out of the area and follow signed detours.

The bike lanes on the east side of Victoria Road North remain open, but cyclists are asked to stay within the barricaded path if traveling through the area. Bike lane closures may be expected during repairs.

The City will replace the damaged section of culvert with a new pipe. Repairs are expected to take about two weeks to complete.

“We appreciate the need to have the road open as quickly as possible,” said Nello Violin, manager of roads and right of ways. “The City will work with the Grand River Conservation Authority to get things back to normal, and minimize potential impacts on the nearby wetland.”
