On Saturday, June 28 the City’s splash pads and wading pools will open for the summer season.
However, construction work is delayed on a new splash pad in Guelph’s South End Community Park. This is unexpected and disappointing news as we anticipated opening the splash pad this summer.
In 2013, the City of Guelph hired a general contractor to build a new washroom facility, widen the existing stone laneway, landscap

, and create two-barrier free parking spaces. As part of the agreement the contractor was to hire a City-directed sub-contractor to design and build a splash pad.However, earlier this month, the City learned the splash pad sub-contractor has decided to not enter into the contract with the general contractor

We hope to award the contract as quickly as possible and are working closely with the general contractor to ensure the project is
built as it was specified in the request for proposal.The splash pad, to be located beside Nick’s Dragonfly Playground, is part of the $1.1 million park project. Depending on weather conditions, construction could begin in late fall with the splash pad opening in summer 2015.
The construction delay does not impact the ongoing construction of the washroom facility, widening of the existing stone laneway, landscaping, and two barrier-free parking spaces. We expect this work to be completed this summer.
Because there was significant community engagement on the south end splash pad project, information about the delay will be posted on guelph.ca and sent to the media via a City-issued information bulletin.
