Talented Guelph youth in the spotlight at River Run

Guelph’s talented youth perform two different shows in Co-operators Hall at River Run Centre on April 3 and 4, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. The shows are part of
MusicWorks|StageWorks , a mentorship program presented by River Run Centre in partnership with Guelph Youth Council and sponsored by TD Canada Trust. The program offers youth, ages 13 to 18, real life experience in putting on a professional-style show – from concept development to performance. The two evening performances showcase 30 musical acts, including singers, guitarists, drummers, pianists, various bands, DJs and a few surprises.

Members of River Run’s technical and programming staff have been working with the participants in preparation for the shows. As part of the process, the performers learned about the essential elements of producing a show, such as, staging, flow, timing, transitions and emceeing.

“The response to our open invitation for youth to participate in our mentorship program surpassed all expectation,” says Danna Evans, Facility Manager of River Run Centre. “In total, over 70 youth are involved in the program.”

“It’s been a great opportunity for members of the Guelph Youth Council to play a leadership role. They have been actively involved in coordinating and promoting the program,” says Adam Rutherford, Youth Services Coordinator for the City of Guelph.

Admission is free to each performance. Seating is on first come-basis.

River Run Centre is Guelph’s signature performing arts centre in the historic downtown core near the site where Guelph was founded. The Centre features Co-operators Hall, a 225-seat studio theatre, Main Stage, a 786-seat concert hall, and Canada Company Hall, a spacious central lobby which overlooks the picturesque Speed River.

Guelph Youth Council is a group of local volunteers (ages 13-19) that aims to preserve and enhance youth culture in the community. The group serves as liaison to City Council, offers leadership training, plans youth-based activities and advocates on behalf of youth.
