Manpreet, are you a push start or pull start? And do you advocate blowing up planes? You and your ilk stay out of my ‘hood. Get it?

As much as I am a vigorous defender of free speech I consider this comment to be racist, hateful and threatening. I have mixed feelings about restricting comments because I think it helps to expose people for what they are. I am somewhat surprised to see this on a moderated blog.      DR

Thank you for your comments and your perspective.

I am the moderator of the Ward 2 blog. Approving this posting was a very difficult decision based on much of what you’ve stated.

This commentator has made several suggestions that her opposition to 410 Clair Rd is not based on racism or hatred.

I did not feel that I could allow these comments to stand while she holds an entirely different repugnant position that she is offering to post.

She is not using a pseudonym.

There have been many more offensive and inflammatory anonymous comments that I have not approved.                            ian

I’ve read posting such as this one on the blog. Respectful language can still be used while disagreeing but this is not happening in this case.

It’s a hard thing to not want to erase responses such as these. Words used in this manner hurt and no matter how I read them the hurt and fear in these statements remains in my thoughts for some time. It causes me to wonder where this fear and anger comes from, are there children growing up believing that this is the absolutely best way that they can treat everyone that is different than themselves. Does the fear and anger begin when one wears different clothes, speaks a different language or just something as simple as being left handed.

So what’s the benefit of erasing comments like this? I think there is more value in publishing the responds such as the one you (DR) made right next to this one. It kind of brings in all back into perspective and has a balancing effect.                                                                              Vicki
