the temple proposed at 410 Clair Road East

Recently, the National Post has reported “Violent incidents at two Sikh temples this month in Brampton, Ont., along with a controversial decision over the weekend to allow photos of leaders from banned terrorist groups onto a float in the annual Vaisakhi parade in B.C……The fight, reportedly involving machetes, knives and construction axes, was the result of a long-standing disagreement between two groups from the temple…” (read more:

Things like the above have happened in our neighbourhood and in other cities. These incidents have raised our concerns about traffic, noise and safety, and have rekindled the debate over the proposed Sikh Temple being built in our neighbourhood.

According to the message given by the Mayor in the Guelph Community Guide for 2010-2011 (Guelph Tribune):” …… Guelph has been named, at different times and by different authorities, the country’s safest community, most caring community, fourth smartest community, and one of Canada’s top ten cities in which to live. ……” . This is so wonderful, and makes every Guelphite highly proud.

It is our sincere hope that before making any decision, City Council will study the violent case in Brampton and make sure a similar issue will not occur in our neighbourhood. Meanwhile, City Council should conduct research on traffic and noise resulting from the proposed temple. We really hope Guelph City Council’s decision takes our concerns about traffic, noise, and safety into account. Make sure our beloved City of Guelph remains prosperous, safe, loving and the envy of others. HY
