Transit Building

I am writing about a concern I have regarding public transportation in Guelph. I ride the bus to the University because I am a full-time student and work part-time. It is promoted as a healthy way to travel, as well as environmentally friendly.

The problem I have is the smoking. My mother is a cancer survivor, and my father died of cancer. I cannot be near cigarette smoke for health reasons. I am also a runner, and fitness and health enthusiast. Currently riders smoke near the buses, as do the drivers. Riders and drivers smoke in the shelters, and drivers smoke in the door-ways of the bus polluting the bus with smoke.

I suggest that the new transit terminal be a 100% smoke-free property. Please bring this up at a council meeting. The Greyhound terminal in Toronto is smoke free in the entire property. This eliminates breathing in cancer-causing toxins while waiting to get in the bus, or while riding. I suggest Guelph have the entire property of the new terminal smoke free, so people like me can get around the city without getting cancer from second hand smoke.
