UPDATE – Slippery Road Conditions – Winter Control Response

As a follow-up to the GM of Guelph Transit’s e-mail that transit service will resume shortly after 12 pm today, I can provide the following update on the road conditions.

Firstly, the snow has stopped and it is not expected to resume this afternoon. Secondly, I can report that all the bus routes are now clear and there is sufficient traction to continue their operations. Most arterial and collector roads are ice and snow free at this time. Salt continues to be applied as the road temperature remains slightly below air temperature which is at 1C right now. Some assets are now able to be diverted to local (residential) streets to apply the 95/5 (sand/salt) mix to assist with traction in those lesser used locations.

Winter control will continue to monitor and maintain the routes throughout this afternoon and into the night. Scattered flurries are forecasted for tomorrow and Sunday with accumulation in the 2-5 cm range. We are prepared to deal with that eventuality.Staff
