Winter Control – 6 Feb 14

Staff memo.

There has only been trace amounts of snow in the last 12hrs. No significant snow is forecasted now until Sunday where we might receive 5-7 cm. Temperatures remain cold with no indication of any thaw coming anytime soon.

I am pleased to say the main and secondary routes are in very good condition this morning with many being reported bare and wet. The residential street plowout is almost complete.

Roads staff will be concentrating on snow removal today in the downtown core. Sidewalk crews will continue their work on the main routes focusing on school areas. Sidewalk crews will attempt to push into residential neighbourhoods later today. Please note that we are switching some of our machines to blowers in order to minimize snow that was falling behind the blades. The use of these sidewalk blowers will slow our work down but we expect the quality of snow removal to increase.

We continue to ask for patience of our constituents as we deal with abnormal snowfall and cold temperatures this winter season.

Drive and walk safe and be mindful of the conditions.
