Starting July 7, riders will be able to catch a bus for any route operating out of St. George’s Square every twenty minutes.

The new 20 minute service frequency will run Monday to Friday, from 5:40 a.m. until 7 p.m. Customers can catch their bus in St. George’s Square on the hour, and every 20 and 40 minutes after the hour. After 7 p.m., these routes will run on a 30 minute frequency.

§ Guelph Transit is now offering 20 minute service frequency, Monday to Friday, from 5:40 a.m. to 6:20 p.m. on routes operating out of St. George’s Square.

§ With a 20 minute service frequency, customers can catch their bus every 20 minutes.

§ As of 6:45 p.m., the routes operating out of St. George’s square will run on a 30 minute service frequency.

§ A moderate fare increase of $ 0.25 on adult, senior and students tickets and $5 on adult and student monthly passes is helping bring 20 minute service frequency to Guelph. The remainder of the costs associated with the new service is covered by development charges, tax revenue, and Provincial Gas Tax funding.

§ Seniors monthly passes remain priced at $52.

§ Guelph Transit has increased the number of Transit buses on the road by 18%, totalling 10 more buses.

Q What does the 20 minute service frequency mean?

The 20 minute service means that a bus will arrive at your stop every 20 minutes.

Q What routes will operate on the 20 minute service?

Any bus that travels through the downtown core will operate on the new service schedule. These routes are as follows:

Q Will the transit fare increase?

Yes – cash fares will increase by $0.25, 10 tickets by $2.50, Adult and Student Passes by $5, Seniors Passes will not increase.

o Cash fare will cost $2.25

o 10 tickets will cost:

Adults – $19.50

Student – $16

Senior – $16

o Monthly passes will cost:

Adult – $63

Student – $57

Senior – $52

o Day Passes will cost $6.25

Children under five and visually impaired riders registered with the CNIB ride free of charge.

Tickets and passes are not available on the bus.

Q When does the fare increase?

On July 6 the cash fare and ticket prices will be in effect. The July monthly passes will be sold at the new rate regardless of the date that they are sold.

Q Why is the fare increasing?

The fare increase will assist with the expenses related to operating the transit system on the new service frequency. The increase does not cover all expenses related to the operation of the service; the capital expenses related to the project are funded through development charges, tax revenue, and Provincial Gas Tax funding.

Additional Communications

Route brochures will be available to customers as of July 4 at the Transit Centre on Watson Road, ServiceGuelph at City Hall, and the Visitor Information Centre.

Media outlets were sent a detailed media release on Thursday, July 3.
Advertising will be posted on the side of the buses and in the bus shelters. A sample of the advertisement is attached. City News ads will also communicate the schedule frequency change to residents, encouraging them to visit guelph.ca/transit or check their ride guide for route maps and times.
City maps will be installed in each of the transit shelters throughout the City. The display panel will have map on one side and city advertising on the other
InfoPosts have been installed at the bus stops and will communicate the stop specific times and Next Bus ID for each individual route.
Rack cards have been ordered and installed in the buses, communicating the new Fare Structure, and reflecting the new corporate branding.
New stickers have been ordered for the Fare Boxes. One sticker will be placed on top of the fare box communicating the cash fare price, the other sticker, shown below, details a few of the rules and regulations.
A new look for Guelph Transit buses will be unveiled to the public on July 21. The new design will reflect the new city brand and colours. A save the date with more information, will follow shortly.
