GTC system

On Wednesday I had an appointment down on Gordon and Kortright. I love to walk, and I did, 45 minutes there and 53 minutes back (getting tired pushing my son’s stroller). The time I left my house would have been the same time I would have had to leave to catch the bus downtown. I reached my destination, on foot, the same time the bus arrived. On the way home, the bus passed me just as my son and I arrived downtown. That particular day, the weather was nice and walking was a pleasure. But what happens when the weather changes? My children are small, and to walk through bad weather for 45 minutes would be irresponsible. However, I don’t feel like I can depend on the public transit system. The approximate 40 minute schedule is confusing, and the thought of waiting around for the next bus to arrive during peak times, with my children …

I don’t have a car, so I don’t have many choices. Are people like myself and my children, who don’t have much of a choice but to depend on public transit not important enough? Does our low income, and small voice make us invisible to council? What do we need to do to get your attention. Just get the funding! Just make it right. Speak up for those of us who need help. Not everyone in your ward is a professional, or educator who owns a big house with a big car in the garage.                     TC
