Hanlon upgrades-comments

I don’t like the idea of trees and green space being stripped in the west end of the Hanlon because this would be an we need trees and green space because they cean the air and their homes for the animals. I know trees won’t totally keep the enviroment clean, but it is one factor, so I ask trees and green space please don’t be stripped in the west end of the Hanlon. RT

I would like to thank the City of Guelph , Stantec, MTO representatives and the City Councilors for the effort in providing us with an information meeting regarding the REVISED PREFERRED PLAN FOR THE HANLON EXPRESSWAY.

While the meeting was informative, it definitely showed that the process involving the Work Shops was very flawed.

It was also very apparent that the issues brought forward by the residents would be addressed with make shift and patch work. “Traffic calming, three way stops, additional traffic lights”

We are totally opposed to The Revised Preferred Plan (third revision, I understand).

The Revised referred Plan would have an on off ramp (Called Service Road) to the West side of the Hanlon, between Stone Road and Downey.

We question the weightings and the scoring as this plan severely impacts the following, to mention a few:

1 Personal residences are to be expropriated (back yards etc.)

2 The “YMCA/YWCA” and the daycare playground would be surrounded by high traffic roads: on the East the Hanlon Expressway, on the South Downey arterial road and on the North-East the two ways Hanlon Ramp (Service Road)

3 What about the pedestrian traffic to and from the YMCA/YWCA?

How can parents be expected to submit their children to the increased traffic dangers caused by the Revised Preferred Plan

4 The daycare uses the neighboring streets to take the children for a stroll or walks; this too will be subject to increased traffic and added pollution.

5 Access to and from their driveways, for residents on the South end of Woodland Glen and access to the YMCA/YWCA will become almost impossible due to the stream of traffic using the Service Road.

As a taxpayer I also question the cost effectiveness of the Revised Preferred Plan:

1 Expropriation of residential properties

2 Cut to grade the West side of the Hanlon

3 Extensive fill required for the South West corner of Stone Road intersection

4 The Stone Road extension is not going to happen, (City stated) that eliminates the need for the West Stone Road to South Hanlon ramp.

Why don’t we save the taxpayers money and place a north bound service road to the East of the Hanlon, as previously planned?

We are relieved that this Preferred Plan is not going forward as presented at the November 19, 2008 meeting and look forward to seeing alternative solutions in the near future.  WH

Re: th impact on Shadybrook Cres.
1) Loss of the access road:
In the winter, it is often not possible or safe to exit onto Ironwood Rd from Shadybrook Cr due to the steep hill. If the hill is icy cars lose traction on the descent and have been known to jump the kerb at the bottom of the crescent, landing in resident’s property. If the hill is snowy, a car must maintain sufficient momentum to ascend the hill, jutting beyond the STOP sign in order to see around the snowbanks. Emergency vehicles would, likewise, have great difficulty negotiating the hill in winter conditions. These are the reasons why the access road has been kept open and why it must remain open.

2) Off-ramp onto Kortright Rd:
An off-ramp is totally unecessary at this location. The impact on John Gamble Park and its neighbouring residents would be substantial – noise, loss of park trees and space, pollution.  MO
