Idling buses in St. George’s square

In response to a number of questions relating to the City of Guelph’s policy on buses idling in the square downtown, Transit staff have provided this clarification:

The anti-idling policy at Transit Services states that “Guelph Transit drivers are required to shut off their buses while waiting at a transfer point, while on a layover or while waiting at the end of their route for their scheduled departure time. In addition, drivers should shut down buses when they return to the garage at the end of their shift”. The policy also states “In the event of “load and go” situations buses will not shut down. Buses will also not be shut down in the event of extremely cold weather (-20 C)”.     Staff
