Parking Concerns – Powell Street East

Please be advised that staff have recently received concerns about the volume of non-residential vehicles being parked along the south side of Powell Street East between Woolwich Street and Dufferin Street. Included in these concerns were requests to limit the use of the available on-street parking to residents of Powell Street East.

City staff have conducted a review of the existing on-street parking restrictions on Powell Street East. As a result of the review, staff are prepared to implement a 2-hour parking restriction provided there is enough residential support. 2-hour time limit zones can be effective in controlling long term parking, and although it does not prevent the use of the on-street parking by vehicles from outside the immediate neighbourhood, it has been found to discourage such use due to the frequent need to relocate vehicles every 2 hours. In the event that a 2-hour time restriction is implemented, a limited number of permits will be made available to the residents of Powell Street East for a nominal fee. Each permit exempts one vehicle from the time limit.

Therefore, we are asking that prior to Thursday, July 24th, 2008 please indicate your preference:

A) No change to existing on-street parking on Powell Street East.

OR

B) Implement a 2-hour time restriction between the hours of 8:00am and 4:00pm, Monday to Friday on the south side of Powell Street East between Woolwich Street and Dufferin Street.

We will accept one response from each residence and should 75% of those residents affected respond in favour of the restriction, we will recommend to Council that the 2-hour time restriction be implemented.

Each residence may respond once in writing to my attention, by email at [email protected] or by mailing or dropping off their response to:
