Thanks for the CEP but what about the cats?

Congratulations on the excellent move to complete the Guelph Community
Energy Plan. This is an excellent initiative and I believe that if you get started on changing the building codes right away these energy reducing goals can be met!I’d also like you to forward on my appreciation to that city planner who has
requested that all the trees standing prior to the subdivision being built in the North-East section of Guelph remain standing after the construction phase is complete. These easy conditions put forth in planning permits make a bigger difference than you know. I wish it would take place more often, with more than trees. How difficult would it be for all planners to put that small extra effort into protecting the environment? Trees need to be protected-always.

Who should I be contacting about the move to take parking officers off their
ticketing duties to enforce the leashed dog regulations? This is a great idea! To learn that it is possible to have parking officers change their focus for one week is great. Next they should be focusing on hitting all those idling violators!! If these officers can focus on dogs for a week, they definately should be able to focus on an issue that is resulting in a global impact. After all, polluting the air we breath is affecting more human health than dog attacks. Who do I talk to about this?

Lastly this issue relates to the leashed-dog regulation. What about cats? This year in particular we have had horrible experiences with outdoor cats. They are constantly using my flower beds as a litter box and as a result they have killed many plants I planted last year. I have tried countless natural remidies to prevent them but they have resulted in failure every time. If dogs must remain on leash, and it is such an important issue to take parking officers off their regular duties to enforce, then why not create a regulation for cats. They torture, play, and kill millions of beautiful song birds every year. This spring I found one american toad and one gartner snake on my property. However I haven’t seen them again and I am assuming cats have got them, played with them, and they have died of stress. Cats are the number one domestic animal for destroying wild life. IF you have to leash dogs to protect people, why don’t we leash cats to protect wildlife? Please consider having a regulation created to restrict cats from being allowed outdoors off-leash.

Thank you and keep up the great work!                     JAL
