Targeting termite zones

The following article appeared in the July 19 edition of the Guelph Mercury: A new termite infestation hot spot has been discovered near the downtown core. The block is bordered by Pipe, John and Dufferin streets downtown. Tim Myles, the city’s termite officer, was called in to investigate more than a week ago after a […]

Subterranean termites are non-native invasive insects that can cause serious structural damage to homes and can be difficult and expensive to control. Dr. Myles visited a property on Emma Street, between Metcalfe St. and Stevenson St. yesterday and confirmed a structural infestation in the main dwelling that in his opinion may have been in existence for 5 years.

Wood mulch in the termite zone

It is my understanding that the use of mulch is frowned upon in termite areas. A rather large amount of mulch seems to be ready for use at the Stewart Mill lofts on Cardigan Street. Is that not a block with termite activity? I noticed it walking downtown Saturday evening. It looked like bark mulch […]

A battle between homeowners & termites

The following article appeared in the June 16 edition of the Guelph Mercury: They’re believed to have started hatching in Guelph about 40 years ago but no one knows exactly how they got here. There are probably hundreds of thousands of them now — creamy-white insects munching their way through tree stumps, fence posts and […]
