I don’t wish to make a formal presentation at the Jan. 14th meeting at the Holiday Inn, but do wish to make you, council members, and city staff, aware that there is another very viable alternative solution to the one proposed by MTO and Stantec Consulting. I am not a frequent user of the Hanlon, […]

Snow Removal
Kudos to the city for the timely and efficient removal of snow from downtown Guelph after Sunday’s snowstorm. Two years ago we had a storm just a few days before Christmas and the city’s centre was left virutally untouched. All of the plows were busy in the south end. Of course, this made it difficult […]
Parking Changes – Emma Street
Staff recently surveyed residences on Emma Street requesting input into whether or not to expand the existing “No Parking” zone located on the south side of the Emma Street between Delhi Street and the Homewood parking lot entrance. Please note that staff received responses from 82% of the residences surveyed, with 89% of those responses […]
Improvements to the Hanlon Expressway: Part 2 The rise of the 406
The Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) has just released it’s preferred plan for the Hanlon Expressway. It can be viewed at http://www.hanlonimprovements.ca/. Some initial observations and questions for the MTO as submitted by Ian Findlay. The MTO”s response will be posted once received. It looks very much like a new 400 series highway running […]
Waverley/Metcalfe – all-way stop request
The following reply is provided by staff in response to a concern by a Ward 2 constituent over traffic at the Waverly Road and Metcalfe Street intersection: We have conducted a review of the intersection of Waverley Drive and Metcalfe Street with respect to your request for an all-way stop. At this time the conditions […]
Highway expansion opposition
I am head of the SMART Coalition trying to stop the Ministry Of Transportation from building a new four lane, limited access highway corridor through our Greenbelt, prime agriculture lands, provincially significant wetlands and the Paris-Galt moraine east of Cambridge. In all the written responses our members have received from the now former Minister of […]
Sugar beet slurry alternative to salt
I was reading an article in the Oct.30-07 Tribune about Guelph’s transit system. It discussed how important it was to keep the buses running properly and it listed a few of the issues that end up taking buses off the road. Some of these issues included graffiti, mechanical problems, and impacts from salt. Well, I […]
Douglas Street for foot traffic only?
The following article appeared in the September 18 edition of the Guelph Mercury: Café tables spill out onto cobblestones. Waiters deliver meals by the light of street lamps. People casually hang out on benches and art installations occasionally fill the street. It might sound like Europe, or at least Quebec City. But if Councillor Ian […]
Waverley Drive traffic
I am asking you, as one of your constituents to do anything you can to get Traffic Services to place a STOP sign on Waverley Drive at the corner of Waverley and Stevenson. Waverley Drive has become a speedway with cars humping down the street at way over the posted speed limit. As I mentioned in […]
Road repairs and repaving in the north east of Guelph
As a resident of the north end, I am somewhat puzzled by all the repaving going on in the south end of the city. I have seen several shave and paves, as well as what seems like total resurfacing going on with several roads, while this end of town is getting next to nothing.
